WHO WE ARE

One of the many wonderful aspects of living in Yellow Springs is the presence of community music. The Yellow Springs Youth Orchestra Association (YSYOA) has been providing support for music opportunities in the village since 1965.

The Youth Orchestra Program was founded by cellist Shirley Mullins and the late violinist Mary Schumacher. Although it originally centered on school-aged children, today the focus has broadened to include the larger community, providing venues for people of all ages to share and enjoy music together.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is good and just and beautiful”.
